Milan's

Design visualisations for Milan's, a highway dining project on NH9 at Rohtak now in progress: a brick and glass hall under a gabled entrance, a festoon-lit court with a mosaic fountain, and dining rooms in teal and cane.

Milan's is a highway dining project on NH9 at Rohtak, and the work is still in progress. Every image on this page is a design visualisation from the studio's set, not a photograph of finished work.

From the car park, the building presents a single steep gable framed in dark steel and glazed full height, with the name across it. On either side, long wings in red brick have large openings screened by patterned jaali panels, and a band of vertical timber slats runs beneath deep roof overhangs. At the edge of the forecourt, a row of kiosks is marked for a souvenir shop, ice cream and a gift shop, and other views in the set place a fountain in front of the entrance.

The open-air court is designed for evenings. Black steel pergola frames, some of them curving, carry strings of festoon lamps and woven lanterns over a floor of irregular flagstone. White shell chairs sit at small round tables, low bollards with ring lights mark the paths, and a circular fountain finished in dark blue mosaic sends up lit jets. Along a brick wall, a counter lined with orange chairs looks back into the court; a covered verandah with a timber ceiling holds long timber tables; and a children's play structure stands at one edge.

Inside, the main dining hall is drawn under a ceiling of woven cane panels set in a grid of timber beams with skylights, against deep teal walls with round vents and timber-framed windows. A black turned-baluster railing edges a raised level, and timber-backed booths in grey upholstery are cut with white mandala fretwork. White paper lanterns, fringed drum shades and rattan domes hang at different heights, and vintage posters and brass lantern sconces line the walls.

At the entrance, a reception counter in timber planks with a grey stone top sits against a curved teal wall, and at the far end of the hall a black and white streetscape mural with a tram fills the glazed screen. Along one wall, long communal tables with spindle-back chairs face a grey banquette heaped with floral cushions.
